Growing up in
Chicago during the second wave of its house music scene, Felix Stallings Jr.
made a name for himself at 15 through his association with DJ Pierre and his
hit, “Phantasy Girl.” His fame grew with the release of In the Dark We Live
(Thee Lite), under one of his many pseudonyms, Aphrohead, which got a popular
remix by Junior Vasquez. Stallings also founded the famed Radikal Fear Records
label and helped pioneer electroclash.
One of the world’s most respected and
in-demand DJs, he’s worked with and/or remixed everyone from Madonna, Britney
Spears and Gwen Stefani to the Chemical Brothers, Thom Yorke and P Diddy. In homage to one of his greatest influences, his 2009 album, He Was
King, contains the clever synth-pop track, “We All Wanna Be Prince.”
